Final Word at the Eisteddfod

21 July 2003

The poems in English

The Packaging Poem

Which is the most important?

The packaging or the egg?

Which is the most important?

The butter or the bread?

Which is the most important?

The bird or the bee?

Which is the most important?

The ewe or the me?

By Maggie Baker

Recovery

The night has been terror:

Depression, cold, confusion.

- Ears scream.

Grey - the morning in

my front-room.

A tear on my cheek and

a child’s grizzle for

a few seconds

- from my

adult form.

A small rebellion

- the beginning of action.

A tiny sunbeam through

the window

- Doing again.

The poems in Welsh

Gwellhad

Bu'r noson yn hunllefus:

Iselder, oerfel, dryswch.

- Clustiau'n sgrechian.

Llwyd - y bore yn

fy ystafell fyw.

Deigryn ar fy moch a

griddfan plentyn am

ychydig eiliadau

- o fy

nghorff oedolyn.

Gwrthryfel bach

- dechrau gweithredu.

Llygedyn o heulwen drwy'r

ffenest

- Gwneud unwaith eto.

Mark Drew

Cerdd am Becynnau

Pa un sydd bwysicaf?

Y pecyn neu'r wy?

Pa un sydd bwysicaf?

Y fforc neu y llwy?

Pa un sydd bwysicaf?

Y gath neu y ci?

Pa un sydd bwysicaf?

Y ti neu y fi?

Maggie Baker
